I began my career by training primarily as a Theatre Designer at Wimbledon School of Art where I had the opportunity to work on a short film for the BBC called ‘Flipped’ and that was the start of an enthusiasm for a love of film making. Initially I worked on short films and low budget feature length drama’s to gain experience, which introduced me to Chris Jones, director and author of the Guerilla film Makers Handbook and Jo Manser, Theatre and Production Designer, both of who I have consistently worked alongside since 2005. My short film catalogue 2001 - 2006 includes films which have been screened at International Film Festivals including Cannes and Edinburgh and ‘Mockingbird’ and ‘Raspberry Ripple’ which went on to win best short film awards at Edinburgh and Calgary.
In 2007 I completed the Art direction training course at Pinewood under the tuition of Terry Ackland Snow which has helped me to become a competent model maker and drafter. The course extended my understanding of construction and building methods and has been invaluable whilst working professionally.
I have extensive experience in graphic design and photography and a good relationship with professional printers which are an invaluable aid to my prop making. I have extensive knowledge of prop houses and resources for buying and making props in addition to a great deal of experience in set dressing. I have consistently shown my ability to control budgets and manage an efficient art department and I have continued to prove my ability by being re-employed by production companies.
As an Art Director I have worked on a wide variety of productions including a pioneering internet based teen drama for the BBC called ‘Wannabes’, a feature film which was shot in Budapest in Hungary at the end of 2007 and large scale period reconstructions for American and English Television Networks. These include documentary drama’s “The Gunpowder Plot: Exploding the Legend” for ITV , ‘A very British Sex Scandal’ for Channel 4 and ‘The Final Voyage of Columbus’ for the U.S History Channel.
